Sinhalese Culture

They are Indo-Aryan speaking native ethnic group of people in Sri Lanka. Main identity resides in the language spoken which is an Indo-Aryan language influenced by Sanskrit and Pali .75% of the population of the country follow Theravada Buddhism.

Sinhalese culture is a unique one which dates back to 2600 years ago. Its main domains are sculpture, fine arts, literature, fine arts, dancing, folk tales and believes. Sigiriya is well renowned for the frescoes.

Traditional dress code include long sleeved shirt with sarong for men and short sleeved jacket wrap around called cheethaya. Saree is mostly worn by women in government sector.

Rice which is consumed everyday with spicy curries makes the dishes mouth watering. Coconut sambol(side dish) made out of ground coconut mixed with chilli pepper, dry maldive fish, and lime juice tends to increase appetite.

In Sri Lanka still you could observe tribal people called veddas living under protected areas.
